Wisdom tooth removal is a part of life, but it doesn’t mean it’s an easy treatment. In fact, it can get quite extensive. So, it’s important to help your teen prepare for their surgery. This will help them have a smooth and convenient appointment and it can also help them have a proper recovery. To help you prepare them for their appointment, our dentist, Dr. Joshua Merrill, has some tips for you.
First, follow the meal instructions that our dental team gave you. We should have told you that your child should avoid eating or drinking at least 6 hours before the appointment. This is recommended because the anesthesia might make your child nauseous, and it’s better if your child has an empty stomach.
Second, make sure your child has a safe ride to and from their appointment, which means they should not drive. This is strongly encouraged because your child will still be on anesthetic when their treatment ends. When they wake up or when the anesthesia wears off, it will still have an effect on your teen, which makes it unsafe to drive.
Third, encourage your teen to wear loose-fitting clothes that they are comfortable in for their appointment. This can help them have a more pleasant experience. It’s also encouraged to leave jewelry and contact lenses at home.
